What is the Bible?
The Bible contains the most important pages ever written. Inside its very pages, consists the finest literature, the foundation for modern laws and ethics, and most importantly, the very words of God. Christians believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It is entirely trustworthy and is the final authority on everything it teaches.
The Bible, although looking like a singular book, is in fact a library of books. The word ‘Bible’ comes from the Latin words for biblia meaning a collection of books. The Bible is made up of 66 books split into two main sections- the Old Testament (39 books) and the New Testament (27 books).
It is written by various human authors; but one ultimate Author working through these individuals, the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16, Luke 24:44, 2 Peter 1:21). In the Bible, we witness a beautiful story from Genesis 1 to Revelations 22 of God’s intention for creation, where we as humans have gone astray, the goodness of God and His saving grace through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and the coming glory to be revealed in us upon the second coming of Christ.
God gave us a Book! A book which contains His very words! God has spoken to us through the Bible and revealed himself to various prophets, kings, and apostles who He appointed to write these revelations down and preserve. And as if that wasn’t enough, He goes the extra mile and gives us His Spirit which helps us read, understand and interpret this book!
